Alby (John) South - a new plaque

For more than 30 years Alby fought to keep Kensington on the map. He was actively involved in community life as a KRA member, keen historian and Councillor for Kensington Ward. Alby was instrumental in lobbying for the establishment of Borthwick Park in 1985. Without his vision and strong support it is unlikely that Borthwick Park would be here today. In August 2000 a River Red Gum was planted in Borthwick Park, near the creek, to commemorate Alby’s 80th birthday. A plaque was placed at the tree but this faded. With the help of Council, KRA has created a new plaque, this time mounted on stone, to remember this spirited, kind gentleman who has contributed so much to Kensington.
